UPDATE: The original story was written under the impression you would only be able to watch Cole Hamels’ retirement ceremony via Apple TV+. Turns out it’ll be on NBCSports Philly too according to the Phils:

Original post:

It was going to be a banner weekend for your dad to complain about the Phillies being on every single channel but NBC Sports Philadelphia. On Friday, the Phils play the DBacks on Apple TV. Saturday it’s business as usual. Sunday the game will be on the Roku app at 11:35am. The Roku app is free FWIW, I just know it’s annoying to have to download another app so you can watch your Phillies. The good news for Friday is that you can watch the entire Cole Hamels retirement ceremony with the regular crew you’ve come to love on the local RSN:

Great move by Apple here. Only Apple. Of course you’ll need a subscription, which I feel like at this point most people still have because they forgot to cancel after Ted Lasso ended. If you don’t, the subscription is worth it for Severance alone (season 2 coming soon!). (Kinkead: I also recommend Tehran and Silo)

It’ll be great to have the normal crew doing the game. Apple has never been able to figure out their announcers. The picture quality is amazing and the production passes. I could do without the hit and RBI % in the bottom right, but who cares. The announcers though always seem unprepared for the teams they’re covering.

I haven’t listened to them since Apple introduced the radio broadcast feature.

It’ll be great for an entire new demo to hear John Kruk tell stories about his hate for Caillou and playing ball at a Mexican prison:
