Normally we wouldn’t do injury updates for other teams, but with the Braves chasing the Phils and a bunch of games between the two teams coming up, this is worthwhile:

Riley was hit by a pitch on Sunday and an MRI revealed the hand fracture. He joins Ronald Acuna Jr., Spencer Strider, Ozzie Albies, and several others on a laundry list of 2024 Braves injuries.

He was having a pretty good year, not the All-Star level we saw the last two years, but a slash line of  .256/.322/.461 with 56 RBI. Urshela, meantime, is posting his worst OPS since 2018 and hitting .243 on the season. He’s on his 5th team since 2021.

There’s no excuse for the Phillies not to win the division. There has not been, ever since Acuna and Strider went down and they built up that big division lead. Atlanta is also down reliever A.J. Minter, Sean Murphy missed a bunch of time, Max Fried went on IL, Reynaldo Lopez is just returning, and Whit Merrifield has had to play 19 games for the Braves since his Philly release. They’re just trying to put band aids over gaping wounds down there but hanging on to a wild card spot.
