Evan Turner on the Entirely NBA show:

“P.G. has a history of not showing up. I never met a human that would let a media rumor drive his energy or personality… Do you know how soft that team gonna be if him and Embiid go together? That probably going to be one of the most disappointing, unbelievable talented, probably the most skilled duo ever since Kobe and Shaq, that’s an understatement. Embiid will be hurt and P.G. gonna be Pauldo.”

Turner played the second half of the 2014 season with Paul George in Indy, and he may very well be 100% correct here. Embiid could be on the shelf injured as the Sixers stumble to another early playoff exit. But “Philly Maxey” does raise a fair point. Turner is kind of corny . Same Turner who was selected eight spots higher than George in 2010 but is now out of the league with nine fewer All Star appearances and the same amount of rings. Turner, you may recall, was a #2 overall pick who maxed out as an NBA journeyman with 9.7 points per game over 10 seasons, a guy who was shipped to Indiana with Lavoy Allen for Danny Granger and a second round draft pick.

Part of the reason the Sixers embarked upon the process in the first place is because after the failed Andrew Bynum deal, Sam Hinkie and company knew that a Jrue Holiday/Thad Young/Spencer Hawes/Evan Turner core had bonked its figurative head on a low ceiling and wasn’t a playoff threat. So they opted to burn the whole thing down and traded Turner for a bag of basketballs in return.
