Nick Sirianni Says Kenny Pickett is QB2
Lot of talk about quarterbacks after Thursday night’s thrilling Eagles win:
Nick Sirianni said Kenny Pickett is the No. 2, Tanner McKee is the No. 3. He made that point clear after the game.

Nick Sirianni: “Kenny’s our No. 2, Tanner’s our No. 3. And I’m happy they’re both on the roster.”

As a quick disclaimer, none of this means anything because it’s preseason. You have backup quarterbacks playing behind backup lines and throwing to backup receivers. Handing the ball off to backup running backs. People made a big deal of Marcus Mariota looking like shit last August and it didn’t matter one iota because Jalen Hurts played all 17 games. Hopefully we never get to find out if Kenny Pickett or Tanner McKee is the second coming of 2017 Nick Foles.
Anyway, as of right now, yes, McKee looks like a better player than Pickett. Everything with Pickett looks cumbersome and labored. He finished 11 for 13 for 67 yards but took four sacks and Warren Sharp says the 11 completions “insanely averaged 0.7 air yards/comp.” That means he was completing passes your grandmother could complete. For comparison, McKee came in and went 15 for 19 for 140 yards and led a touchdown drive in which he threw for more yards than Pickett did the entire game. McKee just seems to get the ball out quicker and have a better processing speed, a better feel for the game at this point.
Naturally, both would look better behind the 1st string offensive line, throwing to A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but this is two preseasons in a row where McKee has played reasonably well, so that’s why you’ve got fans out here calling for him to be QB2 at this point.
That’s it for now. Three Friday paragraphs on preseason football and a backup QB battle is enough.
