Whit Merrifield had a five-hit night as the Braves won again:

This motherfucker! Of course he’s getting hot just in time for the biggest Phillies/Braves series of the year. He’s hit in eight of his last nine games and has pulled his previously-miserable season slash line up to .237/.331/.347. The Braves are 7-2 in that span and have only lost five times since August 10th. Even last week he had a chance to walk it off for the Braves with runners on in the bottom of the ninth but the Phils got away with the W after Bryce Harper was able to smother a ground ball to first, aka the “anti-Buckner.”

But we knew this was going to happen. You didn’t have to be Nostradamus to see this coming from a mile away. Whit Merrifield hit .199 in 53 games for the Phillies. He got on base at a .277 rate, slugged .295, and left here with a .572 OPS. In 26 games with Atlanta, he is now hitting .313 (!!), getting on base at a .427 clip, and slugging .450 with a .877 OPS. It’s disgusting. Dude has 25 hits for the Braves after logging a grand total of 31 for the Phillies. And the dumbest part is that the decision to release him wasn’t even the wrong one. It was totally justified. Nice guy, wasn’t playing well, no hard feelings but see ya. Now he remembers how to hit as the depleted Braves refuse to go away and make this an annoying division race. It makes me wanna puke!

By the way, did you hear that Oasis is reuniting? They wrote about Whit Merrifield back in the 1990s:

Maybe I will never beHitting .313 in PhillyNow is not the time to cryNow’s the time to find out why (he’s finally hitting the ball)I think you’re the same as meAtlanta sees things we’ll never seeMerrifield is gonna live forever
