The Ryan Johansen Era in Philadelphia has Come to an End
Let’s get it back to hockey:

Ant will have more on this at some point, but if you totally forgot that Johansen was part of the Flyers organ-eye-zation, he came over last year in the deal that sent Sean Walker to Colorado for a 1st round draft pick. Two years left on an eight-year deal he signed with Nashville, so the cap hit was split between the Flyers and Preds.
Later, Elliotte Friedman came out and said there were “hard feelings” with Johansen because he shared an agent with Quitter Gauthier. There was also the history with Torts going back to his Columbus days. Said Friedman, in part:
I heard there was some attempt at reconciliation, that Johansen indicated that he would like to make it work, and he wanted to play in the NHL and play for the Flyers. And I heard the Flyers were willing to have the conversation, then came word that Johansen was battling something, whether an injury or (whatever) the case was. So now that’s all on hold. And I think at the time of the deadline some of these things get thrown into the background. It’ll be interesting to see where this goes because Johansen would probably be bought out at the end of the year, and if you’re injured you can’t be bought out.
…
Also too, there’s some hard feelings there, just in general because Johansen is represented by Kurt Overhardt, and Kurt Overhardt represents Cutter Gauthier, or ’cause he’s in the NCAA, he’s Gauthier’s ‘family advisor’ … So there’s some hard feelings there and people wonder how much this plays into all of this, but we’ll see where that goes with Ryan Johansen and Philly.”
Johansen is expected to grieve the termination, so “there will be lawyers,” as Andrew Brandt likes to say. Johansen had injury issues after the trade and didn’t play a single game for the Flyers, so his tenure was Bynum-esque. Or Ben Simmons-esque if you believe there’s a milking-of-injuries-while-still-wanting-to-be-paid going on here. There will be more on this soon. For now, we need to find a way to replicate this “material breach” with other guys who are junking up the cap.
EDIT with an agent statement:
