Postgame Topper comments:

“He’s accountable and admits to his mistakes.”

That’s all you can ask from your star player. He realizes he beefed and he went to talk to Topper before Topper came to find him. Can’t lie though,  that was frustrating to watch at the time. Especially after Brandon Marsh didn’t run out a groundball that was mis-handled earlier in the game. Sometimes you watch the Phils and they have these mental lapses that makes you wonder if they actually care or they just want to fast forward to Red October. I’d believe they were just bored counting down their days til the leaves turned brown if Bryce wasn’t giving answers like this after the loss on Sunday:

Zero substance in that answer now after we saw what happened in the 9th.

On the other hand, the guy hasn’t hit a home run since Jalen Hurts had yet to throw an interception so I have a little grace for him watching the ball. He did the same thing on Sunday in Miami and barely beat out a throw to second. This is kind of just who Bryce is. 99% of the time you can trust him to make the right play or do the right thing. There’s just some at bats where he laces one off the wall and you’re scratching your head why the play was so close at second. Those things add up in the playoffs. You’re the leader. There’s a difference between him running out a week grounder and almost tearing his hammy off the bone and legging out a clear double. If last night’s game was under more of a microscope and not on a Monday during Week 1 of the NFL season him and Marsh would be getting dragged right now. You’ve got the #1 seed on the line. You’ve got the division on the line. It’s not like you need to remind anyone in Philly about a certain Mets team that had a seven game division lead in September and squandered it. This race isn’t over.
