Haason Reddick will officially miss his first game with the Jets on Monday night and forfeit a huge game check:

So lets re-explore the trade for the people at home. The Jets gave up a conditional 2026 third rounder for Reddick. The third rounder can become a second rounder if Reddick plays 67.5% of the season’s snaps, which looks unlikely to happen.

Looking at this from a 1,000-yard lens I don’t understand either side in this situation. It has to be the messiest situation a team and a player have ever gotten into before someone has actually played a snap. The Jets knew Reddick wanted a new deal that put him close to the highest-paid edge rushers. They reportedly put a deal on the table before the trade was completed but he denied it. Wouldn’t that already make a team a little apprehensive to complete the trade with the Birds? Now they just gave up a high pick for nothing. On the other hand, what leverage does Reddick have? With or without him the Jets still have one of the best defenses in the league. Why would the Jets cave to his demands? The only reason they’d pay him is the pass rush sucks to begin the season. Still, he’d have to report for them to even talk contracts because the Jets are too stubborn to negotiate over the phone. Why doesn’t he just hold-in, ball out, and maybe they work something out or he gets paid in free agency? Instead he’s just dying on his sword, according to Dianna Russini.

We can officially declare Reddick’s replacement, former Jet Bryce Huff, the winner of their Week 1 head-to-head battle everyone will be monitoring throughout the season. Zero sacks. Zero pressures. But the best ability is availability.
