One moment you’re chest bumping Jason Kelce, the next you’re clutching your knee in pain. That’s life. If you saw the clip of viral Eagles fan, Dunphy, chest bumping Kelce and wondered if he’s hurt, I have your answer: yes. Dunphy suffered a variety of different strains and partial tears on his knee. Definitely not as exciting as chest-bumping Kelce:

Dunphy’s MRI results don’t look too good.

He has:

  • Grade 1 sprains of the ACL and PCL, without tears.
  • Grade 2 strain of the proximal aspect of the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle.
  • Partial tears (grade 2 sprains) of the MCL proximally and of the MFPL at its femoral attachment.
  • Severe bone contusion of the most anterior aspect of the lateral tibial plateau with minimal depression of the subchondral bone. Small knee joint effusion.

I don’t know what half of that report even means, but I think having a lot of sprains and partial tears in your knee is not good. Thankfully, the damage could have been worse, and Dunphy was told he won’t need to undergo surgery. Still, I can’t imagine the recovery process is going to be fun.

“Yeah I got a slight limp [when walking],” says Dunphy, “it’s definitely improved more than it was last Monday.”

So what’s Kelce doing about this whole injury situation? Dunphy told me Kelce texted him the day after to check in on him, and Kelce’s team has been regularly reaching out to make sure he’s okay. Kelce also hooked him up with an MRI after hearing about the lengthy process Dunphy’s insurance had to cover an MRI. Classic insurance move. You blow out your knee, yet all those years of insanely high premiums still don’t amount to shit. Great to hear Kelce was proactive with this and actually cared. I also can’t imagine the PR nightmare if he had ghosted Dunphy after nearly shattering his knee.

“I would 100% do it again”, said Dunphy. Pretty sure he’s talking about the chest-bump part with this quote and not the sprained ACL.

Props to Dunph for being so positive about this. He still looks back on his chest-bump with Kelce as a super cool moment. This is some serious dad lore. How did you hurt your knee Dad, did you fall down the stairs? No, son, I was chest-bumping Jason Kelce at a birds tailgate. If you thought you had a cool ACL/MCL injury story, you don’t anymore.
