The Phillies beat the Nationals 6-3 on Sunday afternoon to finish the season with 95 wins and 67 losses. In the process:

Nice piece of Phillies lore. There are other players who APPEARED in 162 games since J Roll did it, like Freddy Galvis and Ryan Howard, but nobody since 2007 had STARTED all 162, so that’s the distinction.

With 95 victories, the 2024 Phillies finish have the 6th-most wins in franchise history:

  • 2011: 102 wins, 60 losses
  • 1977: 101 wins, 61 losses
  • 1976: 101 wins, 61 losses
  • 2010: 97 wins, 65 losses
  • 1993: 97 wins, 65 losses
  • 2024: 95 wins, 67 losses
  • 1899: 94 wins, 58 losses
  • 2009: 93 wins, 69 losses

That’s the top eight. Two of those teams went to the World Series, three to the NLCS, and one to the NLDS. 2024 is obviously TBD and in 1899 there was no postseason. Back then, they only played 154 games, so winning 94 games amounted to a .618 win percentage.

It’s a really nice achievement though. They didn’t play particularly well down the stretch, and coasted to an NL East title, but if they had won a few more they could have tied the 2010 and 1993 teams with 97 wins. Instead, they’ll have to settle for being the best regular season team of this particular run, hopefully getting over the World Series hump and bringing it home this time. For what’s worth, the teams that did bring home the title, in 2008 and 1980, won 92 and 91 games, respectively.
