Doug Pederson was asked on Sunday if he’s concerned about his job and Nick Sirianni was asked a version of the same question Tuesday morning on WIP:

Has any coach ever answered this question with a “yes“? Has any coach in the history of sport said, “yes I am on the hot seat and concerned for my job“? I don’t think it’s ever happened. Not across all of time and eternity. And if someone ever did say yes, they would probably be further criticized for being soft and the calls for their firing would only intensify. Why is the coach worried about his job status when he should be focused on getting the team going? There’s only one way to answer this without ending up in the cul-de-sac.

Which begs the question of why people ask it. And this isn’t criticism of Joe DeCamara or the notoriously difficult Jacksonville press (sarcasm), just genuine curiosity. It feels like one of those due diligence types of questions, where you know you’re not going to get a decent answer, but you feel obligated to ask it anyway. There’s a portion of the Eagles fan base, and Philly sports at large, that demands “tough questions” because it shows that the media is doing their job and not being a bunch of pussies. But the thing those people fail to realize is that a question is only as good as the answer it generates, which is why people like Anthony Gargano hammer Howard Eskin for grandstanding:

Great vibes with the Eagles right now. They’re 2-2, people are calling for Sirianni’s job, and Big Play Slay is yukking it up with Micah Parsons on some podcast. Awesome!
