Not the worst question in the world. It’s an open-ended one and the reporter gets a two-word answer anyway, with both words being the same word, so technically it’s a one-word answer. You can add this to the pantheon of great Nick Castellanos interviews, like when Tom McCarthy asked him what he learned about himself during the 2023 season, to which Castellanos replied, “not a damn thing.” Or when Nicole Briscoe asked him what he saw on another game-winning hit and he said “four-seam fastball.”
It’s always high comedy whenever Castellanos gets in front of a microphone. Bluntness personified.
Some other favorites:
- telling John Clark’s photographer to rotate the camera around the stadium to answer his question
- saying that the Phillies thrive after getting punched in the face
- going on MLB Network and saying “I mean yeah, I fuck with Philly”
- asking Matt Winer “where’s the question in that?”
