Effective immediately, the Flyers have a new helmet sponsor:

PHILADELPHIA (November 20, 2024) – The Philadelphia Flyers announced today in partnership with the Local Chevrolet Dealer group, that the award-winning industry leader Chevrolet is the new home and away helmet partner. The Chevrolet logo will be displayed on the Flyers helmets for the first time in game action at tonight’s home game versus the Carolina Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. ET.

“Chevrolet is a historic brand, known for its toughness, reliability, and strength,” said Todd Glickman, Chief Revenue Officer, Comcast Spectacor. “These are all qualities that define the Flyers team and organization, and we are thrilled to be partnering with such a renowned brand at every home and away game.”

As part of the partnership, Chevrolet will receive digital signage within Wells Fargo Center and a physical vehicle display on the concourse near the 11th Street Entrance to engage with fans inside the venue.

“My entire life I’ve had two constants: Chevrolet and the Flyers,” said Jason Elkins, President, Elkins Chevrolet. “We’re beyond excited to have our brand on display at every Flyers game and looking forward to connecting with the passionate Flyers fan base in an authentic way. On behalf of the local Chevrolet dealers, we could not be more thrilled about this partnership and the New Era of Orange.”

This is not the first Flyers helmet ad. The team had the TCS deal during the 2021 season, when helmet sponsors were first allowed, but nothing after that deal expired. The helmets have been clean ever since, with only the Flyers logo and player number. That changes tonight.

The Flyers already have the IBX patch on the jersey, so it’ll be IBX and Chevrolet as the two sponsors. They’ll join the Union as the only team in Philadelphia with multiple uniform sponsors, though in this case the Flyers have one on the jersey and one on the helmet while the Union put both Bimbo and IBX on the shirt itself. The Eagles do not have a jersey or helmet patch while the Sixers and Phillies have Crypto.com and IBX, respectively. There are a bunch of NHL teams with helmet sponsors right now, and the best comparison to the Flyers going with Chevrolet is the Minnesota Wild rolling out Toyota on on each of their helmets.

RE: jersey ads in general, we’ve beaten the opinion horse to death over the past five years. I hate uniform sponsorship with every fiber of my being, but franchises need to make money. Whatever is reinvested in the team is a benefit to fans by way of overall product improvement, and if the cost is slapping some company’s logo on there, so be it. In the case of the Phillies, you can turn the uniform into a walking billboard if it generates enough money to sign Juan Soto. For the Union, they need every dollar they can get to execute their Moneyball model. And for the Flyers and Sixers, playing in a salary-capped league, you use the money for whatever, be it stadium upgrades, training complex, facilities, new Zambonis, etc. Here are some pictures courtesy of Comcast-Spectacor:
