Scott Boras was at the GM meetings where he said Juan Soto is looking for a team with an owner committed to winning. Well you can’t do better than John Middleton, who will do anything to get his fucking trophy back:

Show that video and put a $700 million check in front of Soto and there’s no way he’s leaving South Philly without a signed contract.

I mean it’s only money and we know Middleton doesn’t give a shit about the bottom line. All he cares about is winning:

Remember, this is the same guy who hired a private investigator to dig up dirt on his own sister just to keep his majority share of the billion dollar cigar business via Bob Fernandez at the Inky:

The Middleton parents planned on leaving the cigar company to John, the only son, court documents show. But Lucia opposed doing so, calling it too lucrative a deal for her brother.

The cigar company was instead divided three ways. But then the dispute arose over the valuation of the firm at the time when Middleton bought out his sisters and mother.

According to court documents, Nupson’s mother considered disinheriting her because of her personal problems. Both Nupson and Middleton hired private investigators to dig up dirt on one another. Nupson lives on a 40-acre ranch in New Mexico. She has been divorced twice, and is a recovering alcoholic.

If that’s not winning at all costs I don’t know what is. John Middleton will step over family to get what he wants. That’s a win-at-all-costs attitude that Juan Soto needs. Hal Steinbrenner is going to sell you a bag of magic beans. Everyone knows he’s a nepo baby with no clear vision of how to win in MLB. Steve Cohen is a natural seller. Once the going gets tough he will sell off his assets just to cut his losses. You don’t want to play for a guy who runs a team like a hedge fund.

John Middleton eats, sleeps, and breathes Phillies baseball. The team is losing sleep over not having a ring yet in the Bryce Harper era, via Bob Nightengale:

“The Phillies can’t believe they don’t have a ring in the Bryce Harper era, and after knocking on the door the past few years, they are willing to make a huge move to change their fate. Dave Dombrowski, president of baseball operations, has not internally discussed pursuing Soto with his staff but is painfully aware they need to shake up their lineup. Simply, scouts say, they’re just too easy to pitch to come crunchtime with their big swingers and contact-challenged hitters. If someone needs a slugger like Nick Castellanos, or outfield help in Brandon Marsh, or third baseman Alec Bohm, the Phillies are listening.”
