Strange game in Tampa on Thursday night. The Flyers couldn’t find the back of the net if it was 100 yards wide, then Owen Tippett went top shelf late in the third period and secured two points in the shootout:

First NHL win for Ivan Fedotov, who allowed one goal on 24 shots and stuffed Gage Goncalves and Victor Hedman in the shootout, with relative ease. He wasn’t even supposed to play, a late addition to the lineup after Aleksei Kolosov was ruled out with a LOWER BODY injury. Nonetheless, Fedotov got the souvenir puck after the game.

“I thought he competed harder and I don’t think there was a lot of extra movement in his game at all,” said John Tortorella of Fedotov. “He just seemed more confident. I thought he competed harder tonight.”

That is correct. Fedotov just seemed more focused in net. Held his ground, fewer wasted movements, less peering over traffic. The only bad moment was the goal the Flyers conceded, and even then Coots got his stick ahead of a Nikita Kucherov wraparound only for the puck to sneak through anyway. But yeah, they gave up one goal in Tampa and won in a shootout. Did we see that coming? No, we did not.
