Alec Bohm and Justin Crawford have been “spoken about” in extensive trade talks with the Chicago White Sox for Garrett Crochet, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

The Phillies have been checking in on Crochet since this past trade deadline. They had interest at the end of July, but weren’t willing to part ways with some of their top prospects, specifically Andrew Painter.

Nightengale gave a few nuggets about the Phillies on Monday, in his most recent article:

“…(the Phillies) have been shopping outfielder Nick Castellanos for nearly two years and now are making third baseman Alec Bohm available.

They have spoken about Bohm and outfield prospect Justin Crawford in extensive trade talks with the Chicago White Sox for starter Garrett Crochet, but the White Sox are concerned with Bohm’s struggles the second half, posting a .681 OPS with just four home runs.

If the Phillies trade Bohm, they are expected to make a strong play for Alex Bregman, whose talent and personality would fit in perfectly with the team, or perhaps sign Willy Adames and move him over to third base.

The Phillies are starting to age with their best and highest-paid players in their 30s and catcher J.T. Realmuto in the final season of his five-year, $115.5 million contract.”

As Nightengale states, the White Sox are a bit concerned with Bohm’s second half. But if you watched even one of the 162 White Sox games this past season, I think they could sure use Bohm’s production with RISP.

As pointed out by Tim Kelly of On Pattison, Chris Getz, the White Sox GM, has said that Chicago is looking for a “position player return” for Crochet, and noted that the White Sox primary focus in most trade talks is position players.

“We certainly need to improve our offense. That is very clear.” – Getz

The Phillies have a really good Top four of Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Cristopher Sanchez, and Ranger Suarez. They have Andrew Painter waiting in the wings, who will pitch in the pros at some point in 2025. Do you dish away multiple big-name prospects to bolster a rotation that’s already elite?

We’ve stressed the Phillies’ need for outfield bats and more consistent hitters this offseason, and that should be their main focus. I hope the Phillies stick to their plan from back in July. If Andrew Painter or Aidan Miller get brought up in a talk with the White Sox, hang up the phone. While those are the top two prospects for the Phillies, the organization, rightfully so, has repeatedly shown their love for Justin Crawford as well.

Would Dave Dombrowski ship him out? Only time will tell. But the Phillies roster is going to look different in 2025. A shakeup is needed at the Major League level if this team wants to get over the hump and hoist the World Series trophy for the first time in 17 years.
