The Philadelphia Flyers are playing like a playoff team!

At least the outlook is a bit more bright than their co-tenants of the Wells Fargo Center at the moment. We need something positive to hold on to in the non-Eagles department.

The Flyers are a +154 underdog against the Florida Panthers on Thursday night in a game that serves as a nice litmus test after winning four of their last five games.

They took the reigning Stanley Cup champion to a shootout in south Florida on November 9th. That’s been a familiar trend for the Flyers, who have been to overtime in eight of their last 12 games. You can bet on the game to go to overtime at certain books if you wish.

Florida has been a bit vulnerable on the road lately, so there’s some hope for the Flyers to pull off the upset.

The Panthers are coming off a Tuesday overtime road loss in Pittsburgh and fell to Winnipeg and Chicago on their travels in the third week of November. That’s three of their four road losses over the last four road contests.

Florida’s allowed at least three goals in each of the last four road trips, and its defense has been leaky in the last five with the concession of 13 total goals in that span.

On the other hand, the Flyers have gone under in four of their last five games, with the scores either being 3-1 or 3-2 in all of the games that went under. The lone outlier in that stretch is 5-4 loss to Vegas at home.

The over/under is fairly priced at 5.5 at FanDuel and 6 at DraftKings because of the Flyers’ recent defensive play. I’d say the best bet, though, of the popular ones is the Flyers at +1.5 on the puck line.

The Flyers haven’t been getting blown out. In fact, they only have a single loss of more than two goals since November began and that result came in the first game of the month.

Player props are harder to figure out for this game, in particular, because the Flyers give up 28.3 shots per game and the Panthers only allow 27 shots per contest.

There’s only one true weakness in shots allowed on both sides. The Flyers rank in the top five in shots allowed to left wingers and the Panthers rank in the top five in shots conceded to defensemen.

Travis Sanheim and Carter Verhaeghe are the obvious targets to fit those trends. Sanheim is the Flyers’ top shooting defenseman and he has 2 SOGs against the Panthers, while Verhaeghe had 3 SOGs versus the Flyers back in November and he leads Florida with 84 SOGs.
