The Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets both have had problems keeping the puck of the net recently.

The Flyers allowed 15 goals during their three-game losing streak, while the Blue Jackets just gave up 14 goals during a three-game losing run that ended on Sunday.

So the formula for Tuesday night’s game in Columbus is pretty simple, right?

The over/under is 6.5 for a contest that involves a pair of teams that give up 3.43 and 3.56 goals per game.

Two of the last three Flyers games featured at least seven goals, and if you go back a bit further, five of their last nine losses had at least seven tallies.

When the Flyers win, though, the trends reverse in favor of the under. Five of the team’s last eight wins dating back to the start of November had fewer than six goals.

So, at least there’s a trend in play for the Flyers.

There’s a trend for Columbus, too, but it doesn’t sway toward defense whatsoever.

Only two Blue Jackets games dating back to November 1st have had fewer than five goals.

In Tuesday’s case, I think it’s easier to bet on the Columbus trends because the Blue Jackets have been remarkably consistent with their poor defending.

The Flyers could win and keep the game under, but there’s a more distinct trend in play here with the home side.

Philadelphia is only -120 on the money line, so the expectation, at least among the sportsbooks, is that the contest will be pretty close, It’s worth noting that, despite the poor defense, Columbus is 8-3-1 on home ice.

I would look at Matvei Michkov and Owen Tippett for points bets on the prop side. Michkov has two goals and four assists in just three December games. Tippett has four goals across the last four games, including a two-goal performance against Florida.

Michkov, by the way, is exactly halfway to his season-long point prop now. It was listed at 48.5 and he’s up to 25. He’s still the favorite to win the Calder Trophy as well.

Columbus’ most consistent player has been defenseman Zack Werenski, who leads the team with 28 points and 94 shots on goal. No one else on the CBJ roster has more than 75 SOGs

Some sort of Same Game Parlay involving Werenski, Tippett and Michkov points and Werenski and Tippett shots would be the ideal move for Tuesday night.
