The Phillies are one of four teams that have inquired with the Astros regarding Kyle Tucker, per Joel Sherman of the NY Post:

“More and more, it is appearing as if the Astros are open to trading Kyle Tucker and the Yankees are among the teams most seriously pursuing the star outfielder, The Post has learned.

The Yankees, though, might not be the most determined pursuer of Tucker as the Winter Meetings neared an end. The Cubs are seen as a strong player for the lefty-swinger and the Giants are also involved in talks with the Astros.

The Phillies also had been among the teams that at least inquired and tried to find a package that would work with the Astros…The Astros are prioritizing major league-ready corner infielders and starting pitching if they move Tucker.”

Astros GM Dana Brown said Tuesday that the Astros are willing to listen to teams on trade offers for both Tucker and Framber Valdez, who are set to make a combined $35.5M in 2025. After a “down year” for Houston, they’ve started to enter a re-tool phase, and both Tucker and Valdez could bring back some hefty packages to set up the future.

The Phillies should be all in on Kyle Tucker.

He’s a free agent after this season, and is set up for a huge contract in 2026. Tucker slashed .289/.408/.585 in 2024 with 23 HRs, 49 RBIs, and a 181 OPS+ in 78 games in 2024. The right fielder dealt with a shin fracture for 3 months and was sidelined, but in the 78 games that he was on the field, he accumulated a 4.7 WAR.

Nobody was a bigger winner from the Juan Soto contract than Tucker. The 27-year-old will earn a massive contract following the 2025 season. Kyle Schwarber, J.T. Realmuto, and Ranger Suarez will all be off of the books after this upcoming season. I’d assume the Phillies are interested in bringing Schwarber back, but there will be more money to work with next offseason than this one. If Tucker were to be traded to the Phillies and has a Tucker-like year, letting him walk after the 2025 season wouldn’t go over too well with the city of Philadelphia. If the Phillies made this trade, I’d assume they’d have all the intentions of re-signing him to a mega deal after 2025.

The Astros, as Sherman stated, are looking for “major league-ready corner infielders and starting pitching” in a returning package for Tucker. Alec Bohm and Ranger Suarez have arguably been the two biggest names regarding trade rumors this offseason, so if the Phillies were serious about this, their package could start there. A prospect or two would most certainly be thrown in as well.

I thought the fit for Tucker in the Bronx made sense for the Yankees, and now that Soto is gone, it feels like Tucker is bound to be a Yankee. But the Phillies interest in Tucker is huge news. This is one of the first big bats we’ve heard the Phillies’ name linked to this offseason.

Get it done, Dave.
