Trends Suggest Under 5.5 is Best Play for Flyers vs. Kings
The Flyers are back in Philly on Thursday to play the Los Angeles Kings to begin a very brief home stint. They’re a +135 underdog against a Kings team in middle of an extended road trip.
It’s actually a very similar road run to what the Flyers are about to experience during the holidays. The Kings are on their fifth game of a seven-game road swing. They’re 2-2 so far and three of those four games have gone under. In fact, five of LA’s six games in December have had five or fewer goals.
The other trend in play is the Flyers’ record on the second leg of back-to-backs.
So far this season, the Flyers are 1-3 on these second legs. They allowed at least four goals in all of the losses and needed overtime to beat the St. Louis Blues to earn the lone win in this type of spot.
And then there’s the current losing run to add into the mix as well. The Flyers lost five of their last seven games and are coming off a six-goal concession against the Detroit Red Wings.
The Flyers have allowed at least four games in all of the defeats during that span.
So, to put it simply, there are a lot of trends in play on Thursday night and not many of them favor the Flyers.
It also doesn’t help that the Kings are one of the best defensive teams in the NHL. They only allow 24.7 shots on goal per game and 2.52 goals.
The best way to approach the game from a betting perspective is to take unders, especially on Flyers shots on goal props.
The back-to-back stats from the Flyers, combined with the Kings’ overall defensive numbers, make it hard to find a path to the over 5.5, and for a dominant offensive showing by the Orange and Black.
