Obligatory "Should the Eagles Bring Back Javon Hargrave?" Blog Post
The 49ers are currently preparing for their next sporting contest, which is on the golf course. GM John Lynch said this:
#49ers GM John Lynch confirms that team plans to do a post June 1 release of DT Javon Hargrave. They have interest in bringing him back but that is the plan for now.

Hargrave agreed to a four-year deal worth $84 million in 2023, when he went to the Pro Bowl. Then he tore his triceps in 2024 and only played three games before winding up on IR. Doing a post-6/1 release means the Niners eat some huge dead cap hits in 2025 and 2026, but they can obviously bring him back on a much smaller number instead, if he’s interested.
So obviously people will ask if the Eagles should bring him back. Hargrave turns 32 next month and is coming off a serious injury, so the answer there is probably no. But Milton Williams is a pending free agent and his rookie deal is expiring, so the Eagles will be in the market for another DT if he walks. Keep in mind, Williams actually played more snaps than Jordan Davis this regular season, so when you talk about the Birds’ interior line depth, it’s really Jalen Carter as DT1, then Davis and Williams are something like a situational 2A and 2B, followed by Moro Ojomo and Thomas Booker. Booker was the 5th guy and played more than 150 snaps this year, so they really do throw a lot of bodies in there. If Williams walks, they might be able to draft another DT to add to the mix, then pay Zack Baun, but Howie will figure it out.
Hargrave had 23 sacks and 24 tackles for loss in three Philly seasons. He went to the 2021 Pro Bowl.
