The Flyers sent out a letter to season ticket holders Tuesday afternoon announcing the first price hike in six seasons:

This is a Captain Obvious take, but you will never find a fan who is happy about a season ticket price increase. That fan exists in the same planar dimension as Big Foot, the Loch Ness Monster, and a Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl appearance in the post-Bill Clinton era. But alas, prices are going up.

We all know that the Flyers are rebuilding, so this is really a determination of whether or not the team is actually moving forward.

If you think that they’re going to be a playoff contender next season, with sophomore Matty Michkov on the ice and those bad contracts gone, then sure, you’d absolutely expect a season ticket increase because better teams have higher ticket prices. Simple market economics. But there’s no consensus that the team is any better now than it has been over the past half-decade, hence the understood grumbling coming from a portion of the fan base. There are a lot of Flyers fans who think the wheels are simply turning but not taking the figurative car somewhere else, and they’re beginning to wonder if Danny Briere is the right guy for the job.

Overall, a $5 increase per game would amount to about $200. Obviously the prices differ depending on where you sit. Keep in mind that Comcast just put $400 million into Wells Fargo Center renovations and the fact that they did not increase STH prices during that time span is somewhat surprising and admirable at the same time. They could have easily passed some of that cost to the consumer during the dark ages of Chuck Fletcher and Dave Scott, but thought better of it.

I sent some text messages and made some phone calls and blah blah and came up with this:

  • The scale of the increase is basically the same as what the Sixers have done in recent years. The seats that are right along the ice will go up about $50 per game and then the nosebleeds are something like $3 per game. It’s a sliding scale that decreases the higher up you go.
  • Nearly 50% of Flyers season ticket holders are in the 200 level.
  • The Sixers, Eagles, Phillies, and Union have all increased STH prices in the same time frame that the Flyers did not.
  • The “New Era of Orange” was a catalyst for renewed hockey interest. Apparently the Flyers were top-5 in the NHL in 2024-2025 renewals and the STH base is up by 20%. That’s due largely in part to Dan Hilferty, Keith Jones, and Briere taking over and creating a new public face for the franchise.

That’s the gist of it. A team that is turning the corner, we think, is raising prices for the first time in a long time. Pretty standard stuff, like it or hate it.

EDIT – Got some more info from season ticket holders. This is from someone approaching 15 years in the lower bowl. They’re offering a Matvei Michkov perk and assorted other things:
