It’s hard to not remain in Eagles mode, but the Phillies’ first workout for pitchers and catchers is today, February 12th.

The 2025 season will be a big one for a Phils team  coming off an embarrassing loss to the division-rival Mets. At the same time, they take a really good team into this new season. They have arguably the best starting rotation in baseball. They have an awesome lineup when they’re at their best.

So what will the roster look like on March 27th at Nationals Park for Opening Day? This is my first projection of the spring.

Catchers

J.T. Realmuto and Rafael Marchan

J.T. Realmuto is the Phillies’ starting catcher in 2025, but it’s been noted that the organization and Rob Thomson would like to limit the amount of games he plays to try and keep him fresh. Rafael Marchan is out of options, Garrett Stubbs still has one remaining. That’s the determining factor here. Unless Stubbs has an insane spring, I expect it to be Marchan behind Realmuto on Opening Day. If that doesn’t go well, they have Stubbs as the insurance policy down in AAA.

Infielders

Bryce Harper, Bryson Stott, Trea Turner, Alec Bohm

That’s a damn good infield. I’m fully expecting a bounceback season for Bryson Stott, who was dealing with an elbow injury for a good portion of the 2024 season. While Alec Bohm was the top Phillie on the trade market this offseason, he’s still a good baseball player. Maybe Bohm puts his head down and shuts everybody up this season…that would be fun!

Outfielders

Max Kepler, Brandon Marsh, Nick Castellanos

Max Kepler seems to be the everyday left-fielder for the Phillies. Dave Dombrowski and Kepler both think he can do it. Brandon Marsh is the Phillies’ #1 option in centerfield, but Johan Rojas will be out there as well. For now, we’ll put Rojas on the bench.

DH

Kyle Schwarber

I think this one speaks for itself. Now we just hope that the Phillies extend Schwarber before the season starts.

Bench

Edmundo Sosa, Johan Rojas, Weston Wilson

This is where another decision happens. Edmundo Sosa is a lock. Rojas will be on the roster. The question is that last bench bat. It’s really between Weston Wilson, Kody Clemens, Buddy Kennedy, and a possible Spring Training surprise. I am very 50/50 on the Wilson vs. Clemens debate. I think they’ll favor another righty-bat off of the bench, which leads me to pick Wilson.

Starting Rotation

Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Cristopher Sanchez, Jesus Luzardo, Ranger Suarez

That’s just filthy. This is the best rotation in baseball, taking health into account. The Dodgers have the best…if they’re healthy, but they’ve had issues proving that.

Bullpen:

Matt Strahm, Orion Kerkering, Jordan Romano, Jose Alvarado, Jose Ruiz, Joe Ross, Tanner Banks, Taijuan Walker

The first seven spots of the bullpen are basically locked in. The last spot is up for grabs, but I assume it’s going to be Taijuan Walker. They’re going to give him another shot. Rob Thomson and the Phillies organization had Walker on a plan this entire offseason. He’s posted countless videos across social media and it seems like he’s been working extremely hard to get back to the pitcher he can be.
