Pica’s Closing Upper Darby Restaurant, but Planning a “New and Smaller Location in Delco”

Pica’s posted this:

Seems like we’re losing everything these days. Wonderland Pier, Freddy Hill Farms, Sixers and Flyers games, and now Pica’s, though it does say they’re going to open a “new and smaller location,” so maybe this is not a goodbye, but a “see you later.”

If you’re not a Delco person, Pica’s is more or less an institution there. They serve that famous pie with the sauce on the top and the cheese on the bottom, which Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon ate on national TV about 10 years ago. That resulted in a ton of instant national publicity for Pica’s, which was already a big deal in the Philly suburbs. The restaurant is basically this old-school Italian joint and pretty large, so downsizing does make sense, though there aren’t a lot of details in that note about why they’re changing course here. More details on the way, for sure.
