NFL Blockbuster: Dolphins Trading Out of the Top Three (Update)

(update – yes, I know the Eagles made another move, please just read the new article we posted)
Red alert! Red alert! –
Filed to ESPN: Dolphins trading No. 3 overall pick to the San Francisco 49ers for the No. 12 pick, a 2021 third-round pick (SF’s comp pick for Robert Saleh hiring) and first-round picks in 2022 and 2023, per sources.

Blockbuster indeed!
This confirms that the Niners are going for a quarterback and SHAKES UP THE BOARD. They are going to take Zach Wilson or Justin Fields at #3, assuming the other goes at #2 and Trevor Lawrence goes #1 overall, to the Jags.
What this means for the Eagles is that the chances of getting Ja’Marr Chase at #6 improve. Why? Because Miami was thought to be a suitor, but with them trading back, it pushes a quarterback up the board instead.
So you’re looking at a draft that could now go like this:
- Jags – Lawrence
- Jets – Wilson
- Niners – Fields
- Falcons – Trey Lance? maybe, or trade out
- Bengals – Penei Sewell, Kyle Pitts, Ja’Marr Chase, etc
- Eagles – Sewell/Pitts/Chase/etc
It basically ensures that the Eagles cannot screw this up. Not even Howie Roseman. If three quarterbacks go in the top three, that guarantees one of Sewell/Pitts/Chase falling to you at six. And if nobody takes Lance at 4 or 5, it leaves open the opportunity to trade back for more picks instead.
Let’s go baby. Go Birds.
