APRIL MADNESS: We Have Ourselves a Final Four

The selection committee is aware that people are disappointed with the unfolding of the Philadelphia Eagles media field of 64 bracket.

The #1 overall seed, Ray Didinger, was eliminated in the Sweet 16. The other #1 seeds also went down. We’ve had massive upsets and some absolutely bizarre triumphs in this tournament, but all the committee can do is share the same shock and awe as you, the reader. We did not foresee Seth Joyner and Sal Paolantonio advancing to the Elite Eight as #12 seeds.

But the show goes on, and we must bring this curious exercise to completion. We have tallied up the fourth round voting and now have a Final Four set, based on these results:

Chris Gocong regional

Mike Sielski vs. Brandon Lee Gowton

  • Twitter: BLG 680, Sielski 235
  • Instagram: Sielski 148, BLG 125
  • Total: BLG 2,655, Sielski 1,872

Incredible voter turnout in this regional final, but Brandon Lee Gowton, the towering patriarch of the Bleeding Green Nation, staves off a robust challenge from the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Mike Sielski.

BLG is the champion of the Chris Gocong regional, and advances to the Final Four!

Reno Mahe regional

Seth Joyner vs. Brian Baldinger

  • Twitter: Baldy 254, Joyner 123
  • Instagram: Baldy 163, Joyner 119
  • Total: Joyner 1,032, Baldy 738

A #12 seed winning the Reno Mahe regional? What a run for Seth Joyner!

The selection committee obviously underestimated the former Eagles linebacker and his popularity among the fan base. There turned out to be enormous support for Joyner and his hardline, tough-love approach on the Birds’ postgame show on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Joyner, it would seem, is a force to be reckoned with.

Bobby Hoying regional

Sal Paolantonio vs. The Green Legion

  • Twitter: Sal Pal 271, Green Legion 166
  • Instagram: Sal Pal 181, Green Legion 105
  • Total: Green Legion 1,757, Sal Pal 764

Say what you will about Hollis Thomas and The Green Legion, but they are absolutely trouncing the opposition in terms of voter turnout. There has been a GROUNDSWELL of organic support for the Legion, which is pulling off a grassroots operation that makes Stacey Abrams seem like an amateur in comparison.

The Legion emerges from the Bobby Hoying regional.

Izel Jenkins regional

Les Bowen vs. Adam Caplan

  • Twitter: Caplan 433, Bowen 425
  • Instagram: Bowen 187, Caplan 81
  • Total: Caplan 1,471, Bowen 943

Excellent work by Adam Caplan, who defeated Jeff McLane and Les Bowen in consecutive weeks to advance to the Final Four. It’s been an impressive run by the veteran Inside the Birds host and NFL insider, who is the highest remaining seed in the bracket.

Final Four voting commences later this week.
