Kevin Burkhardt, the now former No. 2 voice for Fox NFL Sundays, is finalizing a deal to replace Joe Buck for America’s Game of the Week:

Burkhardt called DeVonta Smith’s first TD of his career:

So far there isn’t a decision made on who Burkhardt’s #2 will be, but early odds have Greg Olsen filling in, according to Marchand:

Whom Burkhardt will team with on the network’s No. 1 NFL team remains to be seen. A leading candidate is Greg Olsen. In a well-received rookie year, Olsen partnered with Burkhardt on Fox’s No. 2 team behind Buck and Aikman.

While Olsen is a top candidate, he is not guaranteed the spot, as Fox has been determined to look at all candidates. It made overtures to Tom Brady, according to sources, prior to Brady returning to football.

Are we in the Golden Age of sports broadcasting right now? I know the olds are going to tell me ‘no’ and throw out Cosell, Gifford, Meredith, Buck, Summerall, and Musberger. All great in their own right, but right now you could plug plenty of play-by-play guys into the #1 spot on national broadcasts and not miss a beat. Kevin Harlan, Ian Eagle, Gus Johnson, Kenny Albert, and Chris Fowler just to name a few. Then you have Kirk Herbstreit, Olsen, Mark Schlereth, Mark Sanchez, RGIII, and Aqib Talib on the color commentary. The future is in good hands.
