Not Sure if Devon Allen Can Catch, but he Can Definitely Run

The Eagles signed this guy Devon Allen back in April.

I shat all over the move at the time because Allen hasn’t played football since 2016. He’s an Oregon Duck who decided to pursue a track and field career and made it to the Rio and Tokyo Olympics.

No clue if the guy can still play football at age 27, but he’s insanely fast and just did this:

Holy shit. That’s incredible. He made those other dudes look like high schoolers.

Allen’s best football season was in 2014, when he caught 41 passes for 684 yards and seven touchdowns. That was a long time ago, but it’s easy to go Negadelphia here. The Posidelphia take would be to look at Jordan Mailata and what the Eagles did with him. He was younger, yes, and didn’t have football experience while Allen does, but you can’t deny talent, and the Birds love doing these projects. If you’re an athlete, you’re an athlete, and that’s the case here with Allen. Even just putting this dude in the slot with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith or Quez Watkins would require the opposing defense to honor the deep threat. We’ll see how this guy does in camp. Get the beat reporters down there and start logging stats.
