I have no clue what Bob Nightengale’s recent track record looks like, but he wrote this at USA Today:

The free-agent shortstop market will be insane once again this winter with an All-star cast of Trea Turner, Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaerts and Dansby Swanson all potentially available.

Several talent evaluators predict that Turner, who’s from Florida, will return East and wind up signing with the Phillies, leaving Correa with the Dodgers or Cubs.

Obviously Turner played with Bryce Harper in D.C. Harper is a big fan and spoke highly of him earlier this month.

Turner turns 29 this week actually and is an unrestricted free agent this offseason. He’s on a one-year deal with the Dodgers worth about $21 million and is the reigning NL batting champ and a 2021 All Star, plus 2019 World Series winner.

Of course it would be sick if the Phillies got him next season. Turner was traded to LA so he didn’t choose to go there willingly, though he did do the short-term deal. Dave Dombrowski has Didi Gregorius coming off the books and can get off of Jean Segura’s contract as well via $1m buyout. It would be nice for the Phils to land on a high-level shortstop for the first time in a long time. You’d really have to go all the way back to Jimmy Rollins to find the last time they had a top notch player at the position.

Turner this year so far:

.313/.361/.490 with a .850 OPS, 10 home runs, 53 RBI, 19 extra base hits
