This week in absolutely goofy NBA news:

Ric Bucher says that after game 3 against the Celtics last year, Nets players text Ben Simmons in a group chat asking if he’d be ready to play in game 4

According to Bucher, not only did Ben Simmons not respond, he left the chat

Hilarious if true, but it’s Ric Bucher, so take it for what it’s worth. This is the same guy who said he was ready to trust the Knicks’ process back in 2015, in the middle of what would become a seven-year stretch without making the postseason.

The sad thing, however, is that the story is certainly believable. Simmons quit on the Sixers, didn’t play at all last year, and was a promising All Star who became a big disappointment, so I wouldn’t put it past him to quit a group chat.
