Jake Elliott is the Only Choice for Philadelphia Eagles 2023 Team MVP… Right?

You’ve got a vote for Philadelphia Eagles 2023 MVP. It’s going to….
Jake Elliott, right? I mean who else is even up for consideration?
There’s:
- Jalen Hurts, who at one point played himself into the MVP lead while also logging a career high in turnovers and faltering (along with the entire offense) down the stretch
- D’Andre Swift, who ran for more than 1,000 yards and scored 6 touchdowns from scrimmage (5 on the ground, one reception)
- A.J. Brown, who went to another Pro Bowl but saw a slight statistical dip across the board
- DeVonta Smith, who again caught 1,000 yards worth of passes on 24 fewer targets
- Jason Kelce, who was once again Jason Kelce, at least for most of the year
- Lane Johnson (see above)
- Landon Dickerson, a Pro Bowl reserve who played well throughout
- Haason Reddick, who finished with a team-high 11 sacks and team-high 13 tackles for loss
That’s pretty much it. There’s nobody else that you would even try to make a case for.
So it has to be Elliott, who finished this season with a career-high 93.8% success rate on field goals. He was 30-32 overall, and only missed against the Jets and Vikings. The New York miss was an uncharacteristic 37-yard shank, while the Minnesota failure was from 55 yards, again floating to the right. That was it, however. He hit 7 of 8 from 50+ and was 22 for 23 from inside the 50. He was tied for third in the NFL with an 87.5% success rate from 50+, and in the top half of kickers in total attempts from that range.
Elliott also finished 45 for 46 on extra points, posting a 97.8% mark, which was the second-best career rate, behind only the 2021 season, when he was flawless and went to the Pro Bowl.
But yeah, Jake was the only guy who brought it pretty much every game this season. He rarely slipped up. Just total consistency from Week 1 through Week 18. He was clutch in the season opener, banging in some kicks on the rainy turf in New England. He won the first Washington game in overtime and sent the Eagles to OT against Buffalo with a 59-yard bomb in the rain.
Big kicks at big moments, over and over again. That’s why Elliott is Crossing Broad’s 2023 Eagles Team MVP. Congrats! He wins nothing but gets our commendation.
JAKE. ELLIOTT. 59 YARDS TO TIE THE GAME.
