Torts Delivers 48-Second Presser After Flyers’ Third Straight Home Loss

The Flyers lost 6-3 to the Lightning on Tuesday night and there wasn’t much to say afterward:

“Well they’re not as deep as they used to be. They rely on their power play quite a bit, and we take two stupid penalties. Walk’s penalty is ridiculous, Cam’s penalty… and they make you pay. So we were chasing the game. We fought. We were trying to get back into it, but it doesn’t take them much to score a goal on a power play, and that hurt us today.”
48 seconds total. Torts only spoke for 30 of those seconds. No follow up questions, and there didn’t need to be, because we all watched the same thing. They went down 2-0 in the first period, then Nikita Kucherov got his second, on the power play, a few minutes into the second. Credit to the Flyers for battling back to get it to 3-2 and then 4-3, but it was the Michael Eyssimont PPG goal that ended up being the game winner. Kind of a fascinating case study between the league’s best power play team and the league’s second-best penalty kill unit. The former beat the latter on Tuesday night.
That’s three straight Flyers losses, all at home. Even if you throw out the empty net goals, they’ve been outscored by the Lightning, Avalanche, and Senators 14-10 over that span. The sky isn’t falling, but they’ve got some tough games coming up and opponents are going to make up those games in hand sooner rather than later.
