Hopefully Nolan Smith’s Sophomore Leap Matches the Quality of his Press Conference Quotes

Let’s get it back to the Eagles with a quote from Nolan Smith:

“It really don’t matter to me. Football is football at the end of the day. You gotta go fly around and hit somebody dead in their shit no matter if you on the ball or off the ball.”

Mixed feelings on this apex-level prose because Smith was the media darling and fan favorite of last preseason but didn’t have a very impactful rookie year. He dropped some great quotes about 12 months ago, noting  that he did not care about playing in the cold as long as he could “hit a motherfucker.” He also told Sean Desai he wanted a PDF of the playbook and wanted “to be on that fucking field,” but he only got 188 snaps last year, about 16% total. He played 245 on special teams despite being a first round draft pick.

So what we need this year is for Nolan Smith’s press conference and interview quotes to match his play on the field. Vic Fangio needs to get this man on the field and let him “fly around” out there. He’s gained weight and he’s ready to go:

Okay, so it’s only seven pounds, but hopefully Jordan Love feels the difference when Smith drives him into the turf at Neo Quimica Arena in Sao Paulo. Smith needs to take the advice of the lawyer in Office Space, and “kick someone’s ass the first day, or become someone’s bitch.” I don’t want to be in the position of Kenny from Half Baked, where I’m saying “no more window love, go sell weed,” in this case the ‘window love’ being great quotes and the marijuana being sacks. We need to see Nolan Smith annihilating people on the field this year.

This guy absolutely cannot be a bust. The quotes and attitude are too good for him to be a disappointment. He’s the perfect fit for this city. We need a breakout sophomore campaign.
