ESPN Pours Some Cold Water on Your Chase Utley Boner

Dammit, I was just going to full throttle for the 2012 season, too. But this halted things, immediately.
Chase Utley struggled last year: .259 AVG, .344 OBP, .425 SLG, 11 home runs and 44 RBI. All of those numbers were down from 2010… which were all down from 2009, partially because he was hurt in both 2010 and 2011, playing only a combined 218 (out of 324) regular season games.
Not good.
ESPN’s SweetSpot blog went a little deeper, looking at Utley’s success against left-handed pitchers last year. The image on the left contains Chase’s power zones against lefties in 2009-2010. The image on the right shows his power zones against lefties in 2011, a year in which he batted only .187 with two home runs against lefties.
