There was some scuttlebutt out there about David Dahl switching from number 35 to number 31, a bit of speculation that it had something to do with Friday’s Cole Hamels retirement ceremony. Turns out it’s just a nice gesture:

They rehabbed together? Jeez. The end of Cole’s career was such a clusterfuck. He signed with the Braves in 2019, hurt his shoulder, and only pitched 3.1 innings for them.  Then he signed with the Dodgers, had arm pain, and went on the 60-day IL. Didn’t play a single game for LA. And then with the Padres, it was a comeback attempt last February that saw him ultimately retire a few months later. Father time is undefeated.

If you missed it the other day, the Phillies confirmed that Cole’s retirement ceremony will be streamed on the NBC Sports Philadelphia socials in addition to Apple TV+. 6:25 p.m. start. But the game itself is exclusively on Apple. Got it? Good.

(btw, if you do end up with an Apple TV subscription because of the Phillies game, I recommend Tehran and Silo)
