It Falls on the Phillies to Take Out the Mets Trash in the NLDS

I was hoping to apologize for a story I wrote on Wednesday, titled “I don’t want to sound like a pussy, but the Mets have ‘that look’ about them.” They were down 2-0 on Thursday night and about to crash out of the playoffs in typically hilarious Mets fashion, choking away a 1-0 Wild Card series lead, then this guy hit a three-run, opposite field home run to give them the lead in the top of the 9th:

They added a fourth run in the top of the 9th through Starling Marte and Jesse “I’m a douchebag” Winker. It was abhorrent to behold, but you have to give these guys credit. That’s two come-from-behind victories for the Mets to defeat the Brewers and win their first playoff series since Barack Obama was still in office. They keep finding ways to win when it looks like they’re dead in the water.
It means the Phillies will have to take out the trash, beginning on Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park. If you’re a believer in form, the Mets have been the better squad since the All-Star break. If you believe in talent, the Phillies have more, from top to bottom. They have the better pitching staff, a strong bullpen, and a lineup that can mash when not chasing garbage out of the zone. We’ll see if the first-half Phillies show up for Game 1, or if we get the team that coasted to the finish line.
One thing’s for certain. The ballpark is going to be fucking electric this weekend. Do not let the scumbag Mets fans be heard. Drown them out like the rats they are. This isn’t Sixers/Knicks part 2, this is Red October in South Philly. Let’s GO.
