“The Mets are Breaking Philly,” Said Mets Writer Before Mets Loss

This got the Old Takes Exposed treatment on Twitter:
Fans at Citizens Bank Park have taken to booing their own players pretty much every at-bat, as Luis Severino has set down 10 of the last 12 Phillies he’s faced. Most of them didn’t even bother singing along to Bryson Stott’s popular walk-up song.
The Mets are breaking Philly.

Now to be fair, we were broken. The fans, that is. Not the players.
I compared Bryce Harper to Rey Ordonez at some point in the first couple of innings, when he was looking like a Gold Glove infielder with a .213 batting average. Couldn’t make contact with a beach ball. So we all jumped the gun a little bit, but you have to ask yourself if it’s possible to break something that’s already broken. A question for the philosophers. It’s like the famous line from Game of Thrones. “What is dead may never die.” They were talking about the departed souls of Philadelphia sports fans, which crossed the River Styx ages ago. All that’s left is corporeal husk.
That being said, this can still be labeled a jinx. It’s a legitimate mush. Like Quitter Gauthier talking about “a lot of tears for that team over there,” then losing 2-0 in the national title game. Like Krukker mushing the Spencer Steer grand slam back in April.
Put Anthony DiComo in the bathroom! Leave him in there!
