Let’s See How Flyers Fans are Feeling About Ivan Fedotov

The Flyers lost 6-4 in Seattle on Thursday night and Ivan Fedotov had a rough one:
Fedotov stinks.

Obviously not all his fault, but Fedotov cannot see the ice ever again in a Flyers uniform

Fedotov might be mentally retarded

So on and so forth. He gave up a couple of softies from long range, then a third on a pretty gross rebound. Sam Ersson was in net for the 6th goal, which came on a breakaway when the Flyers were making a push to tie the game late.
The thing with Fedotov is that he’s so tall he’s having trouble getting down. I know nothing about hockey but you see the same thing I do. He’s looking over the traffic and then someone fires the puck low at the net and he can’t react quick enough. That was the culprit for two of the goals on Thursday night, and there was probably only one where you could pin it squarely on the defense.
Fedotov has given up 10 goals in two games this season, five in Seattle and five in Calgary. In three games last year, he conceded 10 goals, four of those coming in the 9-3 laugher in Montreal, when the Flyers were cooked and running out of steam, so it’s not like we have much of a legitimate sample size to work with. This remains a rebuilding team, and Fedotov is in the first year of a two-year deal paying him about $3.2 million per, so taking those two things into consideration, you have to think he’s going to get more opportunities. The leash will be relatively long before the Flyers decide to switch things up and give Alexei Kolosov a shot.
For what it’s worth, John Tortorella was asked about his backup goaltender after the loss, and said “yeah I’m not gonna speak about Feds right now,” so interpret that how you will.
