Sixers and Flyers Fans React to the New “Xfinity Mobile Arena” Name

In case you haven’t heard, starting in September, the Center formally known as Wells Fargo will become Xfinity Mobile Arena. It’s a six-year deal until they build another Flyers and Sixers arena and decide on a name. SPOILER ALERT: It’ll probably be Xfinity something like Xfinity AI arena or Xfinity Crypto Arena. The good news is we had the good people of Philadelphia reach to the name change while enjoying their lunch break:
As a former Comcast’er and Xfinity Mobile customer I get the backlash. When people ask me what I think about Xfinity Mobile I tell them pretty good product, does what it needs to do, but the customer service sucks – which is what you can say about every single Comcast product so I can’t blame people for immediately hating the new name. That’s a guy who has waited on hold for two hours just to have his Internet more fucked up than it was before.
As you heard, some people made great points about no sponsors on stadiums. I couldn’t agree more. Lets buck the trend of big corporate stadium ads like they do in Europe. Wembley in England is Wembley Stadium connected by EE (some British wireless company) but no one ever says the last part. Camp Nou in Barcelona is Spotify Camp Nou now. No one outside of Barcelona even knows that because the history of the stadium name precedes a sponsorship. (Kinkead: I’ll add another one, how about “Macquarie Court at The Palestra”?)
I feel like an old man yelling at the clouds about sponsors, but every single day there are more and more and more. Which is fine. I understand the Sixers and Flyers use this money to invest back into the team. It’s just that we can do the Brotherly Love Stadium connected by Xfinity Mobile Arena and it’ll be a win-win for everyone. Time’s yours.
