Philadelphia Union Schedule, Scores, Odds & Stats
The winter of 2025 marked a changing of the guard in Chester, as the Philadelphia Union fired longtime manager Jim Curtin and hired Bradley Carnell as the fourth manager in the team’s 15-year history. Carnell, the former St. Louis and New York manager was connected to Sporting Director Ernst Tanner through the Red Bull system, and played the majority of his career in the German first and second divisions.
At the same time, Tanner made three foreign signings, bringing in Argentine center back Ian Glavinovich, Serbian midfielder Jovan Lukic, and Uruguayan forward Bruno Damiani. He then moved U.S. international midfielder Jack McGlynn, and the Union’s all-time leading goal scorer, Daniel Gazdag, to Houston and Columbus in a series of early-season trades. That series of moves, plus the coaching change, was the catalyst that sparked a red-hot early run, pushing the Union to the top of the table through the June international break.
There’s been an injection of life into a team that missed the postseason for the first time since 2017. Remaining from the 2022 team that went all the way to MLS Cup are Kai Wagner, Andre Blake, Jakob Glesnes, Alejandro Bedoya, Nathan Harriel, Mikael Uhre, Olivier Mbaizo, Jesus Bueno, and Quinn Sullivan.
