Inbox:
The Phillies have acquired right-handed pitcher Nolan Hoffman from the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash considerations. Hoffman had his contract selected and was optioned to triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
Hoffman, 27, has appeared in 22 games (3 starts) for triple-A Round Rock this year and has 46 strikeouts in 35.0 innings pitched (11.8 SO/9.0 IP). Last year, Hoffman pitched for triple-A Norfolk in the Baltimore Orioles minor league system and had 77 strikeouts in 58.0 innings pitched. Combined, over the last two years at triple-A, he has averaged 11.9 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched (123 SO/93.0 IP).
A native of Lincoln, Neb., Hoffman was originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the fifth round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of Texas A&M University. In 185 career minor league games (5 starts), he has posted a 3.65 ERA (101 ER, 249.0 IP) with 267 strikeouts.
5.91 ERA in the minors this season. He will fit in nicely here! Unfortunately it’s not Jeff Hoffman, but let’s welcome Nolan Hoffman to Coca-Cola Park and the Lehigh Valley.
