Mick Abel got rocked by the top of the Mets lineup in an 11-4 loss on Saturday night.
Abel didn’t have it from the jump. He went down 3-0 to Francisco Lindor to lead off the game, and would get him to fly out, but allowed a solo home run to Brandon Nimmo, giving the Mets an early 1-0 lead. The Phillies would answer back, giving him a 3-1 lead, then the top of the 3rd happened.
The Mets went back to back to back with Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo, and Juan Soto, putting the Mets up 4-3. He retired the next three batters to end the inning, but wouldn’t throw another pitch after that. His night was over, and his line was ugly:
3 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 1 K, 4 HR
Abel struggled with the long ball in his last start, so who knows how much this is in play. But Abel could’ve been tipping his pitches. Check out this video from PitchingNinja, and wait for Brandon Nimmo’s “shh” reaction in the dugout.
“Just didn’t execute pitches. Left the ball out over the plate, and up, and not up enough. The put some good at-bats on him” – Rob Thomson on Mick Abel after the game
The Mets tied the all time Major League Baseball record for the most solo home runs in a game with seven. They clobbered the Phillies 11-4 after getting beat down themselves on Friday night. Jesus Luzardo gets the ball on Sunday night in the series finale, opposed by David Peterson. Rob Thomson said that Otto Kemp could make his first start in left field on Sunday.
