Phillies Crush Five Homers, Pummel Braves 13-0 After Delayed Friday Night Start

Who said the Phillies couldn’t hit home runs?
It was an offensive masterclass in the series opener vs. the Atlanta Braves on Friday night, the Phils cracking five home runs, four of them coming in the first three innings, in a dominant 13-0 shutout win.
The night started off with a 2.5 hour rain delay. Mick Abel was supposed to start, but because the Phillies are smart, they pulled him after he went through his full pregame warmup and never let him throw a pitch in the game. The Braves, however, let Bryce Elder still take the mound, and it didn’t end well.
The Phillies have always owned Elder, and Friday night was no different. Shoutout to Joe Tansey for calling the Trea Turner / Nick Castellanos home runs earlier on Friday in his daily betting article for CB. Both of those guys, along with a mammoth shot from Kyle Schwarber, gave the Phillies a huge early lead.
Otto Kemp finally hit his first major league home run in the 3rd inning. It feels like Kemp has had so many close opportunities since being called up. There have been multiple balls put in play that felt like they should’ve gone out. Friday night, one finally went over the fence, and he enjoyed his trot:
Tanner Banks would end starting for Abel, and he was great through the first few innings. Rob Thomson turned it over to Taijuan Walker after that, and he pitched a few shutout innings. Alan Rangel pitched the last five innings. It was certainly a weird one at Truist Park. Trea Turner added his 2nd homer of the night in the top of the 9th off of Phillies legend Luke Williams.
