One Day Into the Great Philly Trash Strike and People Are Becoming Entrepreneurs

I have a feeling we’ll be writing about the Great Philly Trash Strike a lot over the next couple of weeks because it’s so interesting! We’ve got union workers slashing people’s tires, people turning on fire hydrants in Mayor Cherelle Parker’s neighborhood to mess with the water pressure, and Philadelphians are seeing an entrepreneurial opportunity and running with it:
Now is this scab behavior? You can decide. On one hand we’ve got one of the poorest unions in the city only making an average of $46,000 a year fighting for better wages and healthcare. A lot of DC33 were essential workers that couldn’t take off during COVID and have been dealing with horrible working conditions for years. On the other hand are people just supposed to let their trash sit outside their house where rats and raccoons can invade it and get everyone sick? You ever hear of the Black Plague? It’s a sort of gray area that was caused by the mayor when she only set up 63 temporary trash sites (re: dumpsters) for 1.5 million people.
Live look at the trashpreneurs:
The trash is already piling up and it’s already on the ground because the dumpsters are full. It’s looking like a Braves game out there:
If you lived at Temple in the summer after move-out day the scenes from day one of the Great Philly Trash Strike are nothing. Just wait til the Trashnados.
