Hurricane Erin Gave the Jersey Shore a Much Needed Bath After a Long Summer

It’s been a long summer down the Jersey Shore and it’s not even over yet. Hurricane Erin came to give it a bath before Labor Day Weekend to wash away the sins from the Deauville Inn to the OD, The Inlet, and beyond. The good news is it doesn’t look like there’s much catastrophic damage. Some outdoor beach bars are getting mollywhopped while other towns have their people taking the waves head on, literally. I’ll give you one guess what shore town that was. Wildwood, you say? Of course it was Wildwood:
Anyone who has been to the Wildwoods knows that they have mile-long beaches as far as the eye can see, so the fact that the waves are crashing through the storm wall and more tells you the kind of power Erin had. Those waves looked like Duce Staley racking up yards after contact.
Of course, this isn’t anything new. The shore gets a couple inches of rain and the streets are flooded almost immediately since it’s at sea level. Still, I love to see the American ingenuity on display down there when it happens. What’s the best thing to do when the streets flood? Get the kayak. We’re heading to Keenan’s, cuz:
Margate and Sea Isle got the brunt of it too, and I saw videos all the way up to LBI that showed flooding. Hope everyone’s safe. The only people in harm’s way I’ve seen so far are these poor Cowboys fans down that got swept into the ocean:
