Here are Some of the Best Phillies TV and Radio Calls of the 2025 Regular Season
By Nick Piccone

The Phillies are once again National League East champions in 2025, and it’s been a mostly fun ride along the way. As with any team in Major League Baseball, the valleys the Phillies faced were annoying, but the peaks have been incredibly exciting. That excitement reaches a fever pitch during the moment and is only heightened after, when we can enjoy the different ways in which that excitement is told.
That’s why sports TV and radio broadcasts are special. Not only do they build anticipation for a team’s ultimate achievement of reaching a championship, they tell the sobering story of the agony of defeat. MLB broadcasters are given 162 games to make a mark, and it’s probably tougher to do so with so many games compared to other major professional sports leagues. But guys like Tom McCarthy, Scott Franzke, and Oscar Budejen do it better than most, and we’re extremely lucky to have them enjoy the elation when the Phillies win, and share in the sorrow when they lose.
That’s what makes them a huge part of our enjoyment during a long season. They feel the same way we do. And some of the best calls of the 2025 season show that. So I wanted to highlight the three best calls from each local broadcast team this season, and the three best opposing calls.
Tom McCarthy
Let’s start with the local TV broadcast. Tom McCarthy shares the booth with John Kruk, Ruben Amaro Jr., and Ben Davis, with Mike Schmidt and Cole Hamels filtering in and out throughout the season. But it doesn’t matter who his partner is, he delivers some gems when the moment calls.
1) “That one’s drilled! Deep to right field! He has done it! Four home runs in a gaaaaame!”
The Phillies were still playing for a first-round bye against the team on their heels, and they took the first two games of a three-game set in Los Angeles, and the first of the series was an instant classic. I think Wilson’s home run might have been the biggest hit in the game.
2) “Fly ball, left center field. That’s well hit! Going back on it is Pages. It’s GOOONE! The Phillies have taken the lead! Weston Wilson just CRUSHED one!”
Cristopher Sánchez cemented his role as the ace of the playoff rotation this season with the unfortunate injury to Zack Wheeler. He had an incredible moment at Citizens Bank Park against the Red Sox in July.
3) “The 0-2 pitch… SWING AND A MISS! HE GOT HIM! A dozen strikeouts! And a complete game for Cristopher Sánchez, the third of his career!”
Scott Franzke
The Phillies Radio Network features Scott Franzke with a Larry Andersen and Kevin Stocker rotation, and Gregg Murphy filling in for Franzke occasionally. Franzke has been with the Phillies organization since 2006 and has quite a list of memorable calls through the years, his most famous being the Jimmy Rollins’ walkoff against the Dodgers in 2009’s NLCS, with Bedlam at the Bank not far behind.
Franzke exudes passion that makes us feel like a June game is a Game 7. It’s why we love him, and why two of his best calls this season happened on plays at home plate. It was the first game against the New York Mets since being swept at Citi Field in April and both teams had identical 45-30 records, so the winner of the series would occupy first place in the division by themselves. The Phillies already had a three-run lead in the series opener, but JT Realmuto and Nick Castellanos made this Bryson Stott double-advance-to-third one to remember.
1) “BANG, BANG AT THE PLATE!”
A close second for me, possibly 1a, is Brandon Marsh nailing Logan Davidson at home plate to literally save the Phillies from what looked like a sure loss. It was a random May game against the Athletics in Sacramento, but if you weren’t an avid baseball watcher, you might think this was a heated divisional match-up. It also helped secure an eventual 9-6 win.

As an aside, I had fallen asleep after the Athletics took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the 8th inning thanks to a solo home run by Brent Rooker. I woke up a bit later to see the Phillies had a 9-6 lead. I rewound the game to see how it happened, and didn’t even realize the Marsh play happened, I was just looking for the hit that tied it/put them ahead. Thanks to a quick scan of social media, I was able to see the reaction to the Marsh play, thinking it was just a great catch that ended an inning. It was so much better than that. It was a play that maybe had 0.0001% of working out the way it did. It might just be the play of the season.
There was also that four-homer game by Schwarber against the Braves, the first game after being swept at Citi Field for the second time this season.
3) “And everybody looking for history from Kyle Schwarber, the 1-2 on the way… SWUNG ON, HIT DEEP RIGHT FIELD! AND THERE’S HISTORY FOR SCHWARBER!”

Phillies Spanish Radio with Oscar Budejen, Angel Ibo Castillo, and Bill Kulick
We love Oscar Budejen when he’s on the call for the Phillies and Eagles, and his Phillies teammates Angel Ibo Castillo and Bill Kulick are great, too. While pretty much all of us love a good CAMPANAZO! call, the Stott double with Realmuto and Casty scoring at virtually the same time takes the cake for the regular season.
1) “¡Pega contra la barda! Viene anotando Bohm, vienen dos carreras más Castellanos y detrás de el viene JT! !El tiro a la goma! ¡ANOTAN TRES CARRERAS los Phillies!”
But we absolutely need a CAMPANAZO!, folks. The best one of the season happened not too long ago when Rafael Marchán lifted the Phillies to a win in Los Angeles against the Dodgers that pretty much cemented their claim to a first-round bye in the playoffs.
2) “Línea por el right field, la bola se va, se va, se vaaa… ¡CAMPANAZOOOOOO! ¡AREPA POWER AMIGOS!”
¡MARCHÁN!

You won’t see much more of an exciting series during the regular season than the four-game sweep the Phillies delivered to the Mets at Citizens Bank Park in early September. Jhoan Durán started the electric series by striking out Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, and Mark Vientos back-to-back-to-back for the save.
Opposing Broadcast Calls
The Braves were already well on their way to being eliminated from postseason contention in late August, and the Phillies were pissed off after being swept at Citi Field. That made for one of the great opposing calls of the season on the Braves Radio Network.
1) “1-2 belted high in the air! Deep right field! It’s a historic moment for Schwarber and the Phillies!”
7. Kyle Schwarber's full at-bat for #4

The Athletics were so sure to win this game, the TV broadcasters could literally feel it.
2) “Havin’ fun?” “I think the fans here in West Sacramento are.” “Let’s go win a ball game!”
"One pitch away!"

Before the Detroit Tigers collapsed, they were among the best of the best in not just the American League, but Major League Baseball. A rubber match of the early August series culminated on Sunday Night Baseball, and Stott left quite the impression on the Tigers radio team.
3) “The 2-0… ground ball up the middle, and iii-diving stop by Stott! Gets up, throws, GOT HIM! WHOOOOAAAAA! WHAT A PLAY!”

Hopefully we’ll have more memorable calls to enjoy through the next few weeks.
