The Phillies have sold 27,000 tickets for their intrasquad scrimmage on Wednesday. 27,000 tickets. To a scrimmage. We’re talking about practice:
Every $10 ticket sold goes to Phillies Charities and there are still more available. The 27k number was reported by Nikki DeMentri & Tom Gardiner at CBSNews.com:
The Fightins will take the field in an intrasquad game on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
“The baseball operations team wanted to get together, wanted fans in the stands for the excitement, for the players, to stay sharp, and we’re going to be doing their names and Phanavision is going to be on,” John Weber, senior vice president of ticket operations of the Phillies, said.
So far, more than 27,000 tickets have been sold. Tickets are $10 and all proceeds benefit “Phillies Charities, Inc.”
Weber said tickets are still available, but the team will stop selling them at some point this week. He added that the number of tickets will be capped at around 31,000.
Best fans in baseball and it’s not even close. How many teams can say they can sell out over half of their stadium for a scrimmage? Phillies fans are jacked up for Red October. I just wish they did this last year when the Phillies divvied up teams and bet on the game as a tribute to Pete Rose:
This one seems more hush hush. Maybe they’re more locked in. It’ll be a cool opportunity for Phillies fans who might not be able to be in the building during Red October to have one last chance to see the guys this season. I mean look at these prices for the NLDS already:
