A.J. Burnett Might Be Hurt

Phillies pitcher Ty Pennington A.J. Burnett might be hurt. Jim Salisbury reports:
Burnett was on a fast track to the showers when he was removed from the game with one out in the fifth inning because of soreness in his right groin. The right-hander exited after throwing 106 pitches. His balls-to-strikes ratio was an unsightly 52-54.
After the game, Burnett revealed that he’d pitched much of the night with discomfort in his groin. In the fifth inning, it just became too much to bear. He walked the last two batters he faced to load the bases in a one-run game and lefty Jake Diekman came in and bailed him out with two strikeouts.
It would not be surprising to see Burnett miss some time. The problem is in his right groin, the side with which he pushes off the rubber. Teams are usually very cautious in dealing with such injuries. They are treated aggressively at the outset so they don’t linger.
It’s surprising that a team whose core is comprised almost entirely of players in their mid- and late-thirties would encounter injury problems.
