It’s Always Soccer in Philadelphia: 2025 Union Postmortem

The Philadelphia Union crashed out of the playoffs with a 1-0 home loss to NYCFC in the Eastern Conference semifinal on Sunday night. They didn’t roll over and die in standard big-game Union fashion, but they were lacking quality in front of goal and their blue collar pressing game was a little frenetic, disjointed, and janky. The typical sharpness and bite just wasn’t there.

Still, it goes down as a tremendously successful season. 66 points, a Supporters’ Shield triumph, and a total defiance of low expectations makes this one of the best Philadelphia Union seasons of all time. We broke it down in pragmatic fashion on the season-ending IASIP podcast:
