Phillies Extend Rob Thomson Through 2027 Season

The Phillies extended the contract of Rob Thomson through the 2027 season, the team announced on Tuesday morning:
The National League Manager of the Year finalist has led the Phillies to four playoff runs and two NL East titles in his four seasons. Thomson’s contract was set to expire after the 2026 season, but part of the reason for an extension is to not put the skipper into a “lame duck” situation.
Thomson’s Phillies have a .580 winning percentage since he took over for Joe Girardi in June of 2022, trailing only the Dodgers for the best winning percentage in the league since that time. Thomson is just the fourth manager in Major League Baseball history to reach the postseason in each of his first four seasons with a team.
Every coach on Thomson’s staff will return, and they’ll be adding one more coach to the mix as well. Mike Calitri, the former Phillies bench coach, will shift to the “Major League Field Coordinator” position, which is new. The Phillies are in the hunt for a new bench coach. Multiple reports have stated that Don Mattingly and the Phils have mutual interest in making a deal.
